I am currently in the second year of a BTEC Extended Diploma in Photography, which has helped me to widely expand my knowledge of the subject. I am learning about all aspects of photography including studio, location, portrait, still life, darkroom practices and post production. My skills in which are expanding every day. My course has enabled me to realise that I love portrait photography both in the studio and on location. I like portrait photography because you are able to meet a wide range of people and display their personality through an image, creating a photograph that is unique to them.
For the past five years I have worked within The Apple Trust, a local children’s nursery. Within the nursery I worked with children aged between 0 and 11. I would like to take portraits as part of my professional career and I think that this experience really helps when photographing children because if you are unable to interact with children on their level and make them feel comfortable within a photo-shoot, you aren’t going to be able to get good results.
Outside of college, I continue my interest in photography, taking photographs for personal use as well as setting up photo-shoots during events for local businesses and smaller 'at home' family shoots when requested. I try to take my camera with me where ever I go so that I never miss an opportunity to take photographs. I also try to keep my career aspirations in mind and try to take images that have links to my goals so that I can widen my portfolio.
After college I do not wish to go on to university, I would prefer to gain experience within the industry. I currently work within KiddiePic (www.kiddiepic.co.uk) , a mobile children’s photography company and I hope to continue to work for this company after leaving college in order to gain more experience. Eventually I would like to run my own wedding and portrait photography business, and have already started planning for this. I have my company name and logo and also have my own website.
